Exhibit: Mary Applewhite, Morning Prayer Lake & Havana
Initial Exhibit made possible by a grant from the Chicago DCASE Individual Artist Program.
The purpose of this collection of photographs is to tell the story of my journey from the frozen Chicago lakefront, to Havana, Cuba. My hope is to illustrate the painful, emotionally exhausting, and creatively inspiring machinations of slowly losing my Mother… Mary Applewhite, only to have that offset by the sensory overload and heartbreakingly beautiful experience of wandering the streets of Havana.
Photographs and written narrative.

*Photograph: Farewell to the Morning Prayer
The morning she left us. I said goodbye to my Mother for the last time and drove to my “house of worship” on the lake to make this photograph.
