juxtaposition with school girls In the foreground we have two young girls on their way to school. In the background, we have a scene from Inception. This pretty much sums up the visual nature of Havana. the skirts worn by the young girls in this photograph don’t start out that way. When the uniform first arrives, the skirt actually stops just below the knees. But as every parent knows... teenagers are gonna be teenagers, and that’s that.

the Water Dance on the Malecón Evening on the Malecón. As we walked along I noticed these children huddled in the corner, giggling and excited. I stopped to see what this was all about. Woosh! The Atlantic slammed against the breakwall then rained down in a deluge. Screams and laughter filled the night air as they danced back and forth. I parked myself on the pavement, adjusted my camera and waited... giggling and excited.

Dia del lavado Laundry Day. I hesitated before making this photograph, it felt like a rather personal moment. I decided it was part of the larger narrative and took the shot. I was right. When I shared this image with fellow artists and followers around the planet, the discussion became passionate right away. Castro, Poverty, Pride, Loss, Revolution, Class, Capitalism, Humility, Humanity and life in a great city that was once... opulent. Havana.
